Board Game Design
Designing board games in my spare time is one of my pleasures. I love making paper prototypes and enjoy the cycles that design, playtest, and iterate.
Mountains&Rivers
M&R is an abstract 2-player game. Players take turns moving floor grids, placing mountains and placing water. Depending on the shape of waters composition and the elevation of floor grids, they form waterfall, rivers, lakes and seas. After 3 rounds, each round has 3 turns, calculating the final score from the form of the water.
A Year in Dundee
A Year of Dundee is a serious pen & paper game focusing on the reflection of our one-year game development study.
I made character cards for each peer advance. By reflecting on what we did month by month, each peer places the character card on the different places of the event board to score points on technical, insight and self-awareness.
Fematrix
Fematrix is a 1-4 players turn-based strategy game. Players take on the role of four female heroes with varying abilities to save the scientist against enemies controlled by dice. There are four dice with different numbers of faces for the player to use. The player chooses three of them, throws them in a specific order and uses the results of the dice to move and do magic spells.
Trio
Trio is a relaxing 3-player poker game.
Each player chooses and holds a poker suit, discards one card, shuffles, and then face down. The first player draws the top card of his pile and places it face up on the table. The other two players each look at the top card of their pile and place it face down to the left or right of the first player's card. After the cards have been placed, the first player guesses whether the value of the three cards is increasing from left to right (the same is counted as increasing). If the guess is correct, the player takes back his/her card and adds a point.
The next player clockwise is the first player in the next round and the rules are repeated until all cards have been played. The player with the highest score wins.
Happy Birthday
Happy Birthday is a 5-8 players storytelling party game. Players take turns to tell a story in which the character must be present at the party and the next player's story must have a connection to the previous one.
There are four types of cards,生(hap),日(py),快(birth),乐(day). each player gets three random cards at the beginning. Once a player gets a suit of four types of cards, he/she should say "happy birthday" to the birthday girl/boy and wins.
Each player's story should contain one of the four characters 生(hap),日(py),快(birth),乐(day) and not the other three. After all the players have told their stories in each round, the birthday girl/boy decides to give the player who told the best story the card with the word in the story.
Everyone can play a 生(hap) card at any time and the players clockwise must play 日(py),快(birth),乐(day) in order. If they don't have the corresponding card, they should do anything that the birthday girl/boy asks.
